Birch Street Water Main Replacement Project, Brea CA

Birch Street Brea 2The City of Brea is in the process of replacing portions of their aging water mains throughout the City.  PacRim Engineering designed the portion of 12” main in Birch Street between Kraemer Blvd. and Valencia Ave.  The design included plan and profiles of the proposed water main within the westbound lanes of the paved travel way of Birch Street.  Phase 1 was completed on a fast track schedule to allow for installation of a new traffic signal before the adjacent school began in the fall.  Phase 2 included the relocation of an existing pressure reducing vault.  The underground vault and internal appurtenances had to be moved into the paved travel way of the street as there was insufficient space between the right of way and the face of curb.  The design included connections to the existing main as well as reconnection of service laterals.  The profiles showed the locations of know utilities and the proposed vertical separation as required.  PacRim prepared striping plans to restripe the roadway after installation of the water lines and the pressure reducing vault.  In addition to the numerous meetings and coordination with Staff, PacRim coordinated with Metropolitan Water District regarding crossing their 97-inch aqueduct.  After review of the plans, MWD provided written approval of the proposed crossing.
