LA Metropolis’ proposed new residential development in downtown Los Angeles, adjacent to the Northbound (NB) SR-110 Freeway at the 9th Street off-ramp, required an access point from eastbound (EB) 9th Street to the project site. LA Metropolis and Caltrans reached an agreement to replace the existing 9th Street off-ramp/SR-110 northbound on-ramp separation bridge with a new-two span bridge and include the design in Caltrans’ State Route 110 Freeway Project, which includes the widening of the 9th Street UC, S110-W10 Connector Viaduct, 11th Street UC, and Olympic Blvd UC Structures.
PacRim provided the structural engineering services for the bridge replacement in accordance to Caltrans bridge design procedures including Type Selection, Design, and Independent Check. The project was on an aggressive schedule requiring the completion of the design in less than seven months. PacRim prepared the replacement bridge plans as necessary to incorporate them into the Caltrans PS&E package and meet Caltrans’ project delivery milestones.
