Owner / PacRim’s Client: NAVFAC SW
Location: Fallon, NV
Consultant Fee: $303,584.00
Planned Cost and Schedule: $324,002.00 | 10/31/2016
Construction Cost: $5 Million

This project involved the design of plans and specifications to repair deteriorated airfield concrete pavement on Aprons 1 and 3 at NAS Fallon per NAVFAC SW requirements. Airfield pavements were repaired to limit exposure to Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and to meet minimum Pavement Condition Index (PCI) requirements.

PacRim led a team of civil engineers, surveyors, and geotechnical engineers for the project. PacRim staff obtained airfield access, coordinated with the Government, and performed detailed field inspection of pavement panel deteriorations and recorded them for design purposes. PacRim developed design-bid-build plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with the Scope and UFC requirements. PacRim also prepared the basis of design (BOD) in compliance with the scope. The design included full or partial panel replacement as well as corner spall, center spall, popout, and joint sealant repairs. Full panel replacement was designed to mitigate existing ponding issues and addressed incidental re-striping of lead-in/lead-out, edge and towway markings that follow FAA requirements. PacRim developed details and specifications for repairs that avoided interruption of regular airfield operations, while also providing for construction efficiency.

The aprons are extremely flat with minimal storm drainage in the area. Designs had to be carefully crafted to maximize available fall across the site and achieve a positive drainage.
