In conjunction with the Riverside Drive Viaduct Replacement project, PacRim designed the reconstruction of approximately a ½ mile of Avenue 19 under the bridge to accommodate the extension of the LA River Bike Path. The reconstruction included partial removal of an existing median island and changing the transition from 2 lanes in each direction to 1 lane with a Class II bicycle lane in each direction. Also included was approximately a ¾ mile of concrete barriers separating the road from the adjacent railroad and Metrolink tracks. PacRim provided the civil engineering services for the design of the roadway and bicycle facilities including construction plans for improvements, grading, utilities, construction staging, and striping. The project was successfully prepared on an aggressive schedule requiring the completion of the design in less than three months. As a follow-up task, PacRim redesigned and updated the traffic control plan to show closing both southbound lanes of Avenue 19 in order to construct a new column for the bridge structure. PacRim provided the civil engineering services for the design of the 2-stage traffic control plan, including all signing and striping, an interim traffic signal at San Fernando Rd. and Avenue 19, and coordination with LADOT and LABOE.
