The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) constructed a new fuel cell plant on site to assist with their power demands. The plant required over 1100 feet of new gas line to run from across the street through the campus to the new plant location. This new line needed to avoid existing utilities, including numerous electrical services, water lines, a sewer line, a utility corridor tunnel, and a pedestrian tunnel. PacRim provided civil engineering services for this project and prepared gas line routing plans illustrating the new gas lines and the potential conflicts. The plans included instructions to the contractor for horizontal directional drilling, as well other necessary details.
