Invited by the Guangdong Provincial Highway Construction Co., Ltd., PacRim joined the Civil Engineering Design Co., Ltd. of Southwest Jiaotong University in Sichuan Province of China to enter a Design Concept Competition for the Second Bridge of Humen in Guangdong, China.
Chelbi Engineering Consultants, Inc., who acted as the competition organizer for the Guangdong Provincial Highway Construction Co., Ltd, announced, “In order to introduce the advanced philosophy of bridge design in the world, benefit from the international experience in the construction of long-span bridges, and be abreast of the state-of-art developments in the long-span bridge construction in the world, it publicly solicits international design concept entries for the Second Bridge of Humen, Guangdong aimed to draw on collective wisdom and bring about the creative ideas.”
The Second Bridge of Humen is a 20.92 km connector expressway crossing the core economical area of the Zhujiang River Delta from east to west. The two main bridge spans of the Second Bridge of Humen successively cross over the Dasha waterway and Nizhou waterway. The Dasha waterway structure consists of a suspension bridge with a main span length of 1,200 meters, and the Nizhou waterway structure consists of a suspension bridge with a main span length of 1,680 meters. The total investment of the project for the Second Bridge of Humen was approximately RMB 12 billion ($2 billion in US dollar).
