PacRim has assembled an exceptional, world-class team of experts, each renowned in the engineering and environmental remediation field, from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and China in Program Management and Environmental Remediation to embark on the great challenge of cleaning-up the hydrocarbon impacted sites in Ogoniland.
Working with the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), which was established under the Federal Ministry of Environment, PacRim aims to help determine the scope, means, and modalities of remediation of soil and groundwater contamination in impacted communities, enhance local capacity for better environmental management, and promote awareness of sound environmental management as well as ensure livelihoods and sustainable development.
To degrade the contaminants in the impacted sites, the team proposed a bioremediation method using microbial technology. The agent for the project consists of a consortium of naturally occurring microbes selected for their ability to degrade a wide range of organic chemicals, but specifically formulated for the remediation of petroleum and other toxic organic contaminants.
