In 2012, Metro and the Federal Transit Administration concluded environmental planning allowing work to move forward towards bringing the Purple Line Extension to the Westside. Construction of the first section of the subway extension began in 2014 and is currently underway. Section 1 extended the subway from its current terminus at Wilshire/Western and included 3.92 miles of additional tracks and three new stations at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega. Section 2 included 2.59 miles of additional tracks and two new stations at Wilshire/Rodeo and Century City/ Constellation. Section 3 included 2.59 miles of additional tracks and two new stations at Westwood/UCLA and the Westwood/VA Hospital.
PacRim took the lead on the structural design for the Wilshire/Rodeo station and the entire utilities relocation and design. PacRim’s design work was approximately $2.5 million in value. The Wilshire/Rodeo station box would be located under Wilshire Blvd. from Beverly Dr. to Canon Dr. with the station entrance on the southwest corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Reeves Dr. There would be two construction staging areas for this station, one located at the station entrance and the other would be on the north side of Wilshire Blvd. just east of Canon. Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, the station would not only serve those who live and work in the area but also visitors seeking to shop and dine in the Golden Triangle area.
