The Terminal Island Wye Track Realignment Project was identified as a key project of the 2006 Rail Study Enhancement Program. It is located on Terminal Island north of Ocean Boulevard and east of the Pier T Intermodal Yard leads (westerly of Pier S Avenue) and connects Alameda Corridor (CP Badger and CP Mole) to Pier T, Pier T East and the possible future Pier S. The project aimed to provide critical train movements throughout Terminal Island, a facility to turn trains and a second track to the south leg of the Terminal Island Wye where a single track exists today.

The Port of Long Beach (Port) looked to PacRim to design; prepare bid documents; support key pre-construction efforts such as risk assessment, prequalification, quality assurance, sustainability assessment documentation; and provide design support during the construction of the project among other responsibilities. PacRim provided direct assistance to the Port’s engineering staff during the planning, design, and construction phases of this project. PacRim assigned personnel including a Sustainable Design Manager and a team who developed a sustainability management plan for the project. They conducted an initial sustainability workshop with key team members and appropriate Port staff to develop a sustainability strategy checklist leading to goal identification and commitment. The results of the first workshop inspired further sustainability workshops after 15%, 50%, 100%, and Final design submittals. They developed and finalized a sustainability plan to be memorialized and tracked using the Port sustainability dashboard.
